'Life Is Strange' Live-Action Series Ordered at Amazon Prime Video with Charlie Covell as Showrunner

‎Amazon Prime Video has officially greenlit a live-action adaptation of Life Is Strange, the award-winning video game franchise from Square Enix. The series will be written and executive produced by Charlie Covell, who will also serve as showrunner.

‎The project is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and LuckyChap. Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson will executive produce alongside Covell.

‎According to the official synopsis, the show follows Max, a photography student who discovers she can rewind time after saving her best friend Chloe. Together, they investigate the disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering unsettling truths about their town and facing life-altering choices.

‎The original Life Is Strange was released in 2015 and has since grown into a franchise spanning multiple titles, including Before the Storm (2017), Life Is Strange 2 (2018), True Colors (2021), and Double Exposure (2024). The games, developed by Don’t Nod Entertainment and later Deck Nine, have reached more than 20 million players worldwide.

‎Attempts to adapt Life Is Strange for television have been underway for nearly a decade, with Legendary Television previously attached. This Amazon Prime Video order marks the first time the adaptation has been formally confirmed as a series.

‎Square Enix executives Jon Brooke and Lee Singleton also expressed excitement, saying, “For years we’ve had so many people asking us to create a Life Is Strange TV show and we’re so pleased to finally partner with Amazon MGM Studios who we trust will do an incredible job bringing our universe to life.”

‎Covell, best known for The End of the F*ing World, has also worked on Humans, Kaos, Truelove, and the feature film Burn Burn Burn.
