‎Fallon initially approached the subject with humor, telling the audience, “The big story is that Jimmy Kimmel was suspended by ABC, after pressure from the FCC leaving everyone thinking, ‘WTF.’” He then grew serious, saying, “I don’t know what’s going on — no one does. But I do know Jimmy Kimmel, and he is a decent, funny and loving guy. And I hope he comes back.”

‎The show took a creative turn when Fallon delivered his monologue with censorship interruptions whenever his punchlines referenced former President Donald Trump. At one point, Fallon joked about Trump’s U.K. visit, with an announcer cutting in to replace the punchline “Jeff… Goldblum” before Fallon continued mocking Trump’s remarks about U.S.–U.K. relations.
