Gal Gadot Says She Wasn’t Surprised by Wonder Woman DCU Exit
Gal Gadot’s time as Wonder Woman in the DC Universe began with her debut as Diana Prince in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. She went on to headline the standalone Wonder Woman in 2017 before reprising the iconic role in Justice League later that year and Wonder Woman 1984 in 2020.

A third Wonder Woman film was also in development with director Patty Jenkins. However, the project was ultimately cut after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios and developed their own plans for the DCU.
Gadot Wasn’t Surprised by Her DCU Exit
In a new interview, Gadot explained that she was not surprised that she was ultimately removed from the DCU, despite previously being told that they would work with her.
“I saw the way everybody else was handled. The Henry [Cavill] situation was not handled elegantly to say the least. Patty [Jenkins] was not handled elegantly. We’re all adults and we’re all good,” Gadot said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
The actress also reflected positively on the opportunity to portray one of DC’s most celebrated characters.
“I am so grateful I got the opportunity to wear these boots and have the character be so celebrated. I can only wish whoever is next comes pure to this journey. This character means so much to so many of us. It was never mine. I was always just a vessel. This is Hollywood.”
Why Gadot Would Not Return as Wonder Woman
While promoting her latest film, The Runner, Gadot also addressed the possibility of returning for a third Wonder Woman movie.
Even if she were asked to reprise the role, Gadot said she would not be sure about doing another film at this point in her life. She explained that her family responsibilities and her four children’s different schools make committing to another lengthy production difficult.
“For me to go to do another Wonder Woman, I am not sure I would at this point in my life with four children and different schools and all of that,” Gadot said. “To check out from all of them for such a long period of time, it doesn’t work for my life anymore at this point.”
