Gavin Casalegno Talks Jeremiah's Journey, Paris Filming Decoy, and 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' Movie
The Summer I Turned Pretty finale brought Conrad Fisher and Belly Conklin back together in Paris, closing one of Prime Video’s most emotional love triangles. Following the ending, Gavin Casalegno sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss Jeremiah Fisher’s journey, the Paris filming decoy that misled fans, and what’s ahead for the story with a movie on the horizon.

Q: The finale confirmed Conrad and Belly’s reunion in Paris. Yet fans spotted you filming with Lola Tung in France before the release. What was happening there?
Gavin Casalegno: They just told me to get on a plane and show up. They handed me blank sides, and I just went out there and ran. It was super fun. Honestly, it was a free trip to Paris—I can’t complain. I had some great coffee, met the French crews, and they were amazing. But it really was a decoy to throw fans off.
Q: Over three seasons, viewers watched Jeremiah and Belly’s relationship unfold with love confessions, a four-year romance, and even an engagement. How did you approach portraying that dynamic knowing the story’s endgame was Conrad?
Casalegno: I just wanted people to love Jeremiah for who he is. Even after the series ended, there are still people who are Team Jeremiah. My focus was making sure he felt genuine and authentic, not overwhelmed by the Conrad endgame.
Q: Do you think Jeremiah and Belly could have worked out long-term?
Casalegno: I think it still could have worked without Christmas. That was when Belly started loving Conrad again. Without that moment, and with a lot of healthy boundaries, I feel like we probably would have seen a wedding go through.
Q: Some critics say Jeremiah only pursued Belly to compete with Conrad. How do you respond to that?
Casalegno: This is Jenny’s world, and I wanted to honor her vision. I approached Jeremiah as someone who had feelings for Belly growing up. They were best friends, and there was always chemistry between them. So for me, it was genuine, not about competition.
Q: The series finale isn’t the true end. What can you tell us about the upcoming The Summer I Turned Pretty movie?
Casalegno: Honestly, we don’t know much! We’ve heard whispers, but we’re in the dark as much as the fans. I’d say just keep reading theories.
Q: The finale also hinted at a possible new bond between Jeremiah and Denise. What are your thoughts on that?
Casalegno: I just want Jeremiah to be happy. Denise has gotten to see different sides of him, and I hope for the best. When is too soon after leaving the altar? I don’t know, but his happiness is what matters.
The Summer I Turned Pretty may have closed Belly’s love story with Conrad, but Jeremiah’s journey continues to resonate. With a movie now on the way, fans will soon see what comes next for Casalegno’s character.
