‎Owen Cooper won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie on Sunday for his performance in the Netflix miniseries Adolescence. The breakout role has propelled the 15-year-old British actor into the record books as the youngest-ever male acting winner in Emmy history.

‎The supporting actor category featured a strong lineup of nominees, including Javier Bardem for Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, Rob Delaney for FX’s Dying for Sex, Peter Sarsgaard and Bill Camp for Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent, and Ashley Walters, Cooper’s co-star in Adolescence.

‎During his emotional acceptance speech, Cooper reflected on his journey from drama classes to the Emmy stage. “Standing up here is just so surreal. Honestly, when I started these drama classes a couple years back, I didn’t expect to even be in the United States, let alone here,” he said. “But I think tonight proves that if you listen and you focus and you step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life. I was nothing about three years ago. I’m here now.”

‎Cooper earned the award for his portrayal of Jamie Miller in Adolescence, a role that marked his breakthrough in television. His career continues to build momentum with upcoming projects, including his role as Callum in the BBC drama series Film Club. He has also been cast as Young Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights, starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie.
