MGK reveals what Taylor Swift told him during Chiefs' 2025 Super Bowl loss
Both MGK and Taylor Swift were among the high-profile attendees at the 2025 Super Bowl in February, where the Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the Philadelphia Eagles. Swift was there in support of her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, while MGK showed up not only as a fan of the Chiefs but also as the scheduled performer for the team’s afterparty that evening.

Initially, expectations were sky-high for the Chiefs, who were chasing a rare third consecutive championship title. Those hopes, however, began to unravel as the Eagles consistently racked up points, eventually securing a 40-22 victory. Reflecting on the night in an August 6 interview with ABC News, MGK shared a moment he had with Swift during the game.
He recalled being in Kelce’s suite when Swift expressed enthusiasm about attending the afterparty. “At the beginning of it, Taylor was like, ‘Hell yeah, we’re gonna come watch you perform, it’s gonna be crazy tonight,’” MGK said. “Internally, I was stoked. I was like, ‘Oh what a legendary night this is gonna be.’”
As the game progressed, the outlook changed. MGK recounted looking at the scoreboard in the third quarter and turning to Swift with a knowing expression. “I went up to Taylor, I was like, ‘Y’all aren’t coming tonight, huh?’ She was like, ‘I don’t think so, man. I’ll see if I can get [Travis] to get out, but I don’t think [so].’”
MGK still honored his commitment to perform at the Chiefs' post-game gathering in New Orleans, though the atmosphere wasn’t exactly celebratory. Offering a bit of humor, he advised other artists to think twice before agreeing to such gigs. “Don’t ever sign yourself up for that,” he said, adding with a laugh, “Wait to sign the paper ’til third quarter or something, ’til it looks like it’s going one way or the other.”
Even after the tough loss, MGK expressed continued support for Kelce and the Chiefs. “That’s my dawg,” he said of the star tight end. “He’s from Cleveland. He’s from right next to where I’m from.”
Shortly after the interview aired, MGK released his latest album, Lost Americana, on August 8. The project, supported by none other than Bob Dylan, represents a stylistic pivot toward a more roots-influenced sound, marking a departure from the hip-hop and pop-punk styles he’s known for.
Meanwhile, Kelce and the Chiefs have resumed training in preparation for the upcoming NFL season, which kicks off in early September. With Swift’s Eras Tour now concluded, she is expected to attend even more games as the new season unfolds.
