‎Based on the cultural juggernaut that captivated global audiences in 2021, Squid Game: The Challenge places 456 contestants in elaborate recreations of the original show’s intense competitions. Unlike the fictional series, contestants face no physical harm upon elimination. Instead, the reality version focuses on psychological endurance, social strategy, and stamina, with a life-changing $4.56 million prize awaiting the winner. Netflix has teased the introduction of entirely new games for the upcoming season, adding fresh complexity to the already competitive format.
‎The series debuted in November 2023 and quickly captured viewer attention. For its first two weeks, it ranked as the most-watched English-language series on Netflix globally. It remained within the top 10 worldwide for five consecutive weeks and appeared on Nielsen’s U.S. streaming charts for four weeks. The show’s early success underscored the global appetite for immersive reality formats tied to recognizable franchises.
‎Production is helmed by Studio Lambert and The Garden, both under the ITV Studios umbrella. Executive producers for the series include Stephen Lambert, Tim Harcourt, Nia Yemoh, and Stephen Yemoh of Studio Lambert, along with Anna Kidd, Nicola Brown, and John Hay of The Garden. Their collaboration continues to push the boundaries of large-scale reality storytelling.
