Ortega has now elaborated on her exit in a video shared via Instagram, recorded approximately 48 hours after her return to the U.S. She began by acknowledging the controversy and apologized to those hurt by her past actions, specifically the Asian community. “I am deeply, truly, honestly, so sorry,” she said. Ortega clarified that the intent behind her words did not align with their impact and emphasized that her actions caused harm regardless of her intentions.
During her stay in the villa, fans unearthed a past post in which Ortega used a racial slur. The discovery triggered backlash online, with many viewers urging the show to take action. Ortega described her use of the slur as “naïve,” explaining that she was unaware of the term’s full historical weight and the pain it carries. “Intent doesn’t excuse ignorance,” she said, framing her statement as one of accountability rather than a plea for sympathy.
She also addressed accusations that she had doubled down when corrected about the term in the past. According to Ortega, she did not persist in using the word once she understood its impact. She noted that the moment served as a turning point in her personal growth and claimed that since then, she has worked to educate herself and others.
Acknowledging the show’s response, Ortega said she “completely agrees with the network’s decision” to remove her, and added that the consequences were warranted and “absolutely… received.” She expressed understanding of the punishment and reiterated her responsibility in the matter.
Ortega further discussed the aftermath of the controversy, sharing that her family has faced safety concerns and that she has been targeted with death threats. She condemned such reactions, urging against retaliating with hate. “There’s no need to fight hate with hate,” she stated.
Concluding her video, Ortega asked for space to grow, even if forgiveness is not offered. Her departure followed a similar incident earlier in the season involving fellow contestant Yulissa Escobar, who was also removed from the show after past podcast clips featuring racial slurs resurfaced. Escobar issued an apology, acknowledging her lack of understanding and the pain associated with the language she used.
