Casandra “Cassie” Ventura Fine is no longer just the soft-spoken R&B artist behind 2006’s platinum hit “Me & U.” Today, she stands at the center of one of the most high-profile sex crimes trials in the entertainment industry, serving as a key witness in the federal case against disgraced music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Cassie, now 38 and expecting her third child with husband Alex Fine, has emerged as a symbol of survival, her testimony forming the backbone of a case that accuses Combs of rape, trafficking, coercion, and physical abuse during their decade-long relationship.
The public first learned of Cassie's allegations in November 2023, when she filed a civil lawsuit accusing Combs of subjecting her to years of violence, control, and exploitation. Though the suit was settled within 24 hours, the details within it triggered further investigations, leading to Combs’ arrest in Manhattan in September 2024.
At the opening of Combs’ trial on May 12, federal prosecutors laid bare a pattern of alleged abuse spanning more than a decade. One claim detailed an incident in 2009 in which Combs "stomped repeatedly" on Cassie's face. Another alleged he coerced her into non-consensual acts during drug-fueled "freak off" parties. Prosecutors say Cassie’s testimony will also corroborate the infamous 2016 hotel surveillance video, which captured Combs chasing, assaulting, and dragging her in a hallway — footage authenticated by two witnesses and allowed as evidence despite legal objections.
Their relationship began in 2005 when Cassie was just 19 and signed to Combs’ label, Bad Boy Records. By 2008, she was living in properties he paid for in New York and Los Angeles. According to court documents, her early career was shaped — and ultimately derailed — by the power imbalance that came from being both Combs’ romantic partner and employee.
In 2019, Cassie left Combs for good. The years since have been marked by her efforts to rebuild — marrying personal trainer Alex Fine, having two daughters, and now, preparing for a third child. "I am better today, but I will always be recovering from my past," she wrote in a candid Instagram post in 2023.
