'Euphoria' season 3: Sydney Sweeney teases an even more unhinged chapter of HBO's cult drama

‎HBO's Euphoria is gearing up for its third season, and if Sydney Sweeney’s recent comments are any indication, fans are in for the show’s most chaotic and emotionally raw chapter yet. Speaking with Empire magazine, the Emmy-nominated actress revealed that the upcoming season will be "unhinged" — a word that perfectly captures the show's signature style.

‎Sweeney, who plays the emotionally complex and controversial Cassie Howard, opened up about her love for the role. “I have such a spot in my heart for Cassie, and I hold her really close and dear,” she said. “She is crazy. She makes so many mistakes. She’s flawed on so many levels, but she does it all from a place of love. It could be a sad version of love, as well.”

‎The Anyone But You star went on to highlight her creative collaboration with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, describing a process of continually pushing boundaries. “It’s so much fun to play a character that is as crazy as she is. Sam is such a brilliant filmmaker to work with, because I’ll read something, then I’ll call him, and I’m like, ‘Let’s go crazier.’ And he’s like, ‘I’m all in.’ And this season is unhinged.”

‎When asked directly if Season 3 is more unhinged than before, Sweeney laughed and confirmed, “Yes.”

‎Euphoria’s second season aired in early 2022, leaving fans eager for more. However, delays caused by industry strikes and reported creative differences between Levinson and star Zendaya have pushed back the production timeline.

‎Now in active production, Season 3 will feature a dramatic five-year time jump, shifting the characters’ lives well beyond high school. The new season will explore their evolution as young adults, tackling even darker and more mature themes.
