Cassie testifies against Sean Combs in federal trial: Explosive abuse and sex trafficking claims unfold
Singer and model Casandra “Cassie” Ventura delivered powerful testimony Tuesday in the federal criminal trial of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, accusing him of years of abuse and sexual exploitation that she said began when she was just 19.

Now 38 and visibly pregnant, Ventura took the witness stand in a packed courtroom as the government's star witness, recounting in harrowing detail a decade-long relationship marked by alleged violence, manipulation, and sexual coercion.
The trial, which began Monday with opening statements and testimony from government witnesses, centers on charges that Combs used his media and music empire to operate a criminal enterprise. Federal prosecutors have accused him of sex trafficking, racketeering, and obstruction of justice.
A Relationship Built on Control
Ventura testified that her relationship with Combs began after she signed a 10-album deal with Bad Boy Records, when she was still a teenager. What followed, she said, was years of psychological and physical abuse. She described being trapped in “freak-offs,” multi-day, drug-fueled sex marathons organized and controlled by Combs.
“They became a job where there was no space to do anything else but to recover and try to feel normal again,” she told the jury.
She alleged Combs micromanaged her life — from her appearance to her daily activities — and physically attacked her numerous times. “He would knock me over, drag me, kick me, stomp my head if I was down,” she said.
Opening Arguments: A Celebrity on Trial
Prosecutor Elizabeth Johnson set the tone early, saying, “This case is not about a celebrity's private sexual preferences. It’s about coercive crimes.” Johnson painted a picture of Combs as a man who exploited women through manipulation, money, and fear, citing incidents involving another accuser known only as "Jane."
One alleged assault included Combs throwing Ventura to the floor of an SUV, stomping her face, and hiding her for days in a hotel, Johnson said. She also claimed he blackmailed Ventura with explicit footage of encounters with "dozens and dozens" of sex workers.
Defense: Troubled, Not Criminal
Defense attorney Teny Geragos did not deny Combs’ volatile nature. “He’s a jerk. He has a bad temper. He uses drugs,” she conceded. But she argued that the government was mischaracterizing toxic but consensual relationships, calling the civil suits against Combs "money grabs."
Witness Testimony Underscores Abuse
Hotel security guard Israel Florez and Daniel Phillip, a former acquaintance of Ventura, corroborated aspects of her testimony. Florez recounted a 2016 hotel incident where Ventura appeared injured and fearful. Phillip testified that Ventura paid him to have sex with her while Combs watched — and described witnessing violence but feeling too afraid to intervene.
Surveillance footage of the 2016 assault, previously aired by CNN, was shown to jurors. Combs had apologized in a since-deleted Instagram video, though he continues to deny criminal wrongdoing.
