Harrison Ford withdraws from 2025 Oscars presentation due to shingles

Harrison Ford has announced he will not be attending this year's Oscars. The 82-year-old actor, who was originally scheduled to present at the 97th Academy Awards on Sunday night, made the decision to withdraw after receiving a shingles diagnosis.

Ford’s shingles diagnosis came on Friday, and he is reportedly doing well, focusing on rest and recovery. Shingles is a viral infection that typically leads to a painful rash, as noted by the Mayo Clinic.

Earlier this year, Ford made appearances at events such as the Captain America: Brave New World and 1923 season two premieres in Los Angeles. During the 1923 red carpet event, Ford shared his appreciation for working on the show, describing it as “old-fashioned movie-making” with minimal CGI and a focus on authentic, physical storytelling. He expressed his enjoyment of the "viscerality" of the project and the natural settings involved.

The Oscars ceremony will still proceed with a star-studded lineup of presenters, including Oscar winners Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer), Emma Stone (Poor Things), Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers). Other notable presenters include Oprah Winfrey, Selena Gomez, Ben Stiller, Willem Dafoe, Goldie Hawn, Ana de Armas, and Lily-Rose Depp, among others.

The Oscars will be hosted by Conan O’Brien and broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on ABC and will be available for streaming on Hulu.

The news of Ford’s shingles diagnosis was first reported by Entertainment Weekly.
