BBC presenter Alex Scott says racist trolls 'threatened to throw acid in her face'

British presenter Alex Scott has revealed that internet trolls threatened to throw acid in her face, making her afraid to leave her home.

Scott is a former England player with 140 caps who now presents Football Focus and has been on The One Show and Match of the Day. She told The Times newspaper that when she was named as a prospective replacement for another BBC sports program, her enemies raced to attack her online.

She said:

"I've received lots of bigotry, insults, and even death threats. When I was mistakenly supposed to be replacing national treasure Sue Barker as the anchor of A Question of Sport, many said, 'She's only on TV because she's black, female, and younger. She's merely ticking boxes.'"

Scott added:

"I was terrified to leave the house because these trolls threatened to throw acid in my face, but thankfully, there are other people who keep me laughing. They'll come up to me at my neighborhood business and say, 'Keep going,' which is exactly what I do."

Scott remains the face of Football Focus and is in the hunt to replace long-time Match of the Day broadcaster Gary Lineker, who revealed last week that he would be leaving the post after 25 years.
