Tom Holland to star in Christopher Nolan's next film

Tom Holland will co-star with Matt Damon in Christopher Nolan's upcoming film.

Nolan created the script and directs the project, which will be distributed by Universal Pictures. The studio has scheduled July 17, 2026 as the release date.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, although sources claim the setting is not modern (though it's unknown whether it's set in the past or future).

Nolan is co-producing with his wife Emma Thomas under the Syncopy banner.

The new film reunites Nolan with the studio that produced his drama Oppenheimer, which propelled him to his first Oscar. He won best director and received a producer award for best picture on the film, which grossed a whopping $976 million worldwide.

Oppenheimer was the filmmaker's first collaboration with Universal, a relationship formed after Nolan formally split from longtime home Warner Bros in late 2020. While Universal acquired Oppenheimer through an open auction, this new project went directly to the studio, according to sources.

While Damon is a member of the Nolan ensemble, having previously collaborated with the filmmaker on Oppenheimer and 2014's Interstellar, this will be Holland's first collaboration with the acclaimed director.

Holland's boarding could have long-term consequences. According to sources, the actor will spend next year juggling this movie and Spider-Man 4, with a possible appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. Spider-Man 4 has been delayed enough that Holland's co-star Zendaya will now film Dune 3 in early 2026 rather than next year.

Holland, who previously appeared in Apple TV's 2023 miniseries The Crowded Room, is represented by WME and Sloane Offer.
